Sculptures, sunsets, and some stuff in between

Hi Everyone!
Today was a bit of a disappointment as far as sightseeing goes. The day started out well at the Vigeland sculpture park. There are so many cool sculptures by Gustav Vigeland concentrated in one park. I liked the ones surrounding this monument because they show people at all stages of life, and with many different emotions.

I especially liked this one as a reminder to help others when they are struggling.

From there I went to photograph Oslo City Hall.  I would have loved to take a tour, but the city hall is closed almost the entire month of September for elections.

Then I went to the Nobel Peace Center, an museum dedicated entirely to the winners of the Nobel Peace prize.  Unfortunately the lower level was closed due to a special event. I still enjoyed the museum though. I thought this interactive display was really beautiful, and a creative way to display all the winners of the peace prize, when you walk in front of a screen, it senses you looking at it and lights up, as well as plays a musical tone, before displaying the reason that person won the peace prize.  It creates an entirely unique ambient music soundtrack to accompany your time in this section of the museum.

They also had a section of the museum dedicated to the 2018 peace prize winners-Denis Mukwege Mukengere, and Nadia Murad for their work to end the use sexual violence as a weapon of war.

Harold really liked this display hanging from the ceiling in the lobby.

Then I went to Askerhus Fortress and castle, where unfortunately the castle was closed. It wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be, so I left early and headed back to the Opera house for a few more photos, and to visit the gift shop.  That's when my day started to turn around. Harold really wanted his picture with the Kirsten Flagstad statue out front.

I decided to climb to the top of the roof of the opera house, and the view is pretty nice.

Then I went to and area of the city called the Barcode Project. It's full of interesting architecture that is fun to photograph.

I headed out to another sculpture park, this time because it has a great view of the city at sunset, and the sunset in Oslo did not disappoint!

I would have liked to stay out a bit later, but I was hungry and it was definitely time for dinner, and to try and get out a bunch of blog posts, which obviously didn't happen.  My fitness tracker logged over 20,000 steps for the day, and I was certainly feeling it!
