Sand, sun, and the northern lights

Hi Everyone,

Today I took a tour of the southern shore of Iceland. First stop is the black sand beach at Reynisfjara.  It is amazingly beautiful!

I didn't get too close to the water because you have to be careful of "sneaker" waves, that all of a sudden sneak up the beach at an alarming pace, and tend to carry people out to sea.

The beach also has these crazy squared off rock formations.

We stopped at a nearby village for lunch, and I was so glad I had a packed lunch, because here was my view while eating it.

Then we visited the Skógafoss waterfall. The sun came out for a few minutes and created a rainbow above it.

Harold was enamored with the sheep at the farm next to the waterfall.  He keeps seeing the sheep grazing as we ride through the countryside, and was happy to finally see some up close.

Then we visited the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and you can walk behind it! Again, the sun was out, creating rainbows.

Icelanders love hot dogs, and I knew I had to have one Icelandic style at this kiosk, which is the best place to go in all of Reykjavik.

This evening I saw a show at the Harpa concert hall: the Icelandic Sagas in 90 minutes, and it was a fun and audience interactive show.  The cast members are totally happy to pose for photos.

Then it was time to go on my second northern lights tour.  I am so happy I booked it, because the northern lights were spectacular, they lit up the sky with green, and were moving and shimmering, and even had hints of purple and pink.  It was really windy, but I managed to capture a few good photos, and even some video.  And of course, Harold got the photo with the best sky behind him.
