Horses, Sagas, and Auroras

Hi Everyone!

Today I went on an Icelandic horseback riding tour!

The Icelandic horse has a special extra gait that is like power walking, and its super smooth, people actually knit and hold glasses of beer (without spilling it) to demonstrate how smooth the ride is. I got the horse that wanted to stop and snack all the time! Harold of course had a lot of fun on the horse. Well, when he wasn't riding in my belt bag, it's best for your safety and the safety of the animals if you keep both hands on the reins at all times.  They are kind enough to stop and take photos of you at one point on the tour.

Then I visited the Saga Museum, to learn about the Icelandic Sagas, the history and stories of the settlers and warriors who came to Iceland in the 800's. The statues in the museum are incredibly lifelike, and that's because they are cast from real people.  I think Harold had more fun at the museum than I did.

I had a bit of extra time, so I visited the Sun Voyager. It was hard to get a good photo because it was swarmed by tourists, and a bachelor party, and then it started to rain.  I ran into one of the girls from the horseback riding tour, and she was kind enough to take my photo.

Then it was time for my Northern Lights tour.  First we visited the Aurora museum to learn about the science and history behind the Aurora.  Then we boarded an off-roading van and drove out to the middle of nowhere, and waited.  Lucky for me the clouds cleared, and we saw just a little bit of the northern lights.  They appeared white in the sky, which I wasn't expecting.  My camera was useless, and go figure, my phone took the only good photo of anyone in our group (This is why I love my Google Pixel phone Night Sight for the win!).

I ended up texting it to everyone in the group.  I got back to my hostel at 2:30am, and I have a 7:30 pick up tomorrow. Thankfully I can nap on the bus.
