Hello from Iceland!

Hi Everyone!
I spent my morning wandering around Bryggen, the historic area of Bergen near the harbour.  While the buildings are cute,

I preferred the view out the hostel kitchen window.

Then I took a tram to the airport to fly to Iceland. Harold gets to be the star on travel days, and he was delighted at the puffin waiting for us at the baggage claim.

The city is about an hour away from the airport, so they offer airport transfer buses, and hotel drop off, and I'm so glad that I paid extra for the hotel drop off.  My plane landed early, and I was able to take an earlier transfer bus, so I arrived at my hostel an hour earlier than I had planned, which meant that I now had an extra hour to shop at the grocery store.  Eating out in Iceland is expensive, and I have so many day tours planned that it made more sense for me to pack lunches for the six days I'm here.

Harold was excited to go shopping at Bonus, one of the chains here in Iceland he heard about from one of his instagram friends.

They have a walk in fridge for all the produce.

This is what happens when Harold helps with the grocery shopping; we end up with cookies.

I was a bit nervous about reading food labels, but Google translate came to the rescue.  I could take a photo of the label, upload it in Google translate, and get an accurate translation of all the ingredients.  Some items had English ingredient listings so I really only had to translate four or five items.

I'm staying at a pod hostel, and breaking one of my rules and staying in a mixed dorm, because my pod locks from both the inside and the outside, so I'm not worried about being bothered in the middle of the night. It's bedtime for me (and little purple hippos) so I'll leave you with some photos of Harold in our space pod.
