Mount St. Helens, Tree Cave, and Forks

Hi Everyone!
Today we went to see Mount St. Helens, or what we could see of it due to cloud cover.  We started the day with a hike at the visitor's center. I'm enjoying all the greenery and the forest landscape.

Then we spent time at the visitor's center learning about the eruption, the eventual regrowth, and the plants that are native to the mountain. Harold really enjoyed learning about the science of sound, and why the eruption seemed silent to hikers on nearby mountains.

Even though the mountain was obscured by clouds, the view was still beautiful.

Then we went to a second visitor's center for another hike closer to the mountain. This time we did see part of the mountain, even if it was only for a few minutes.

We had a four hour drive to Forks today, however the fun part of traveling with friends is singing in the car to pass the time. Close to Forks is tree cave beach, named for a tree with visible roots that appears to create a cave.

It was Harold's first time at the beach! He really liked the cairns (rock stacks) found near the tree cave.

The lighting was fantastic, so I may have been a little photo happy.

We arrived in Forks...at twilight! We're staying in a house near the high school, but stopped to take pictures at the famous sign.
