All roads lead to Rome (and none of them are straight)

Hi Everyone,
Navigating in Rome is hard! It takes me twice as long to walk somewhere as Google maps says it should. Also, there is no such thing as a straight street, they veer off to the left or right.
It's hot in Rome! I've given up on trying not to look like a tacky tourist, and I'm wearing knee-length shorts, and my lighter, more breathable sneakers. I bought some Palazzo pants from a street vendor to wear on the days I won't be able to wear shorts due to entry restrictions at churches, especially the Vatican. You may be seeing more Harold selfies, especially from mid-day events because I feel like I'm melting.

This morning I went on a guided tour of the Roman forum and the Colosseum.

It was totally worth paying for the good tour, because I got to go out on the arena floor,

down to the dungeons below,

and up to the top tier. Harold was having a great time until he heard that one of the gladiator sports was hunting hippos. Then he wanted to hide in my purse for the rest of our visit. I convinced him to come out and take a selfie with me from the third tier.

This afternoon Harold and I went to visit Bocca Della Verita, or the mouth of truth. Legend has it that if you are lying the mouth will clamp down on your hand. I asked Harold if he was afraid to sit in the mouth, but he reminded me that he technically can't talk, and therefore cannot lie.

This afternoon I went to the Capitoline hill museum, where the statues found in the ruins of the Roman Forum are displayed. I thought this bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius was especially fantastic.

This evening I went and saw two other sections of ruins in Rome, Trajan's Market

and Lago del Torre. I actually enjoyed those ruins more than the Roman Forum this morning.
The Lago del Torre ruins are also a cat colony, and the cats live among the ruins, and are cared for by staff.

I found some really beautiful Madonellas while walking around this evening.  I thought the mosaic tile one was really beautiful.

As much as I would like to take some photos of monuments this evening, I'm going back to my hostel to try and get some rest. I'm getting sick with allergies thanks to the Roman pine trees, so I think some sleep might be in my best interest. I have another early morning at the Vatican tomorrow.
I'll leave you with a video, Harold really liked this street musician.
