A chill day in the Cinque Terre

Hi Everyone,
Today I spent a relaxing day in Vernazza, village #4 of the 5 villages that make up the Cinque Terre.  I stayed in an Airbnb instead of a hostel, and it has been great. My room is 20 feet from the train station, and 200 feet to the harbour.  On my way to the harbour for breakfast this morning, I walked by an open air market that sell fruits and vegetables to the locals as well as tourists.

I had breakfast sitting in front of the Santa Margherita di Antiochia Church.  I really loved the stonework pattern of the pavement.

After visiting the church, Harold and I walked along the beachfront of the harbour and watched the fishermen. Harold wanted to go swimming, but I told him he could lay out on the rocks instead.

I got sunburned yesterday in Pisa.  I didn't think I was outside long enough, but apparently I was. Harold is fine because hippos can't get sunburned, a fact he was all too happy to point out. I slathered myself with sunscreen, and because I'm prepared for anything, I packed a UV blocking umbrella to use if I was going to be out in the sun all day.  I got some funny looks from the locals, but let me tell you, the ability to make your own shade is awesome! It was really handy when I climbed up to the top of the Doria Castle tower for some amazing views.

Who needs to eat lunch when you can have gelato with a view! I took the recommendation of a traveler I heard on the train to have the cinnamon gelato.

I decided to go back to my room to avoid the hot midday sun, and to get away from the tourists now packing the city streets. This evening I ventured out for dinner and some evening photos of the harbour. Harold really enjoyed the view from our table.

I really like the way my evening photos are turning out with my new camera.

I had more gelato this evening, because I couldn't turn down nutella and peanut flavor.  If eating gelato two times a day is wrong, I don't want to be right!
Tomorrow I'm headed to Milan, where I will see an opera at La Scala.  There probably won't be a post from me because it will be a late night.  I don't want anyone to worry about me.
