Scotland*

Hi everyone!
Today I took the train to Edinburgh. I walked along the river to get to the train station. It sure beats our Tucson river walk!

The River leading into the city of York. The banks of the river have large stone tile walkways, and several trees. There is a low bridge stretching across the river, and the city is visible behind the bridge.

The English countryside is beautiful, and it's dotted with cows and sheep along the way. At one point the train runs right along the coast, so I got to see the ocean (and a lighthouse).

A view of the English coastline on a moderately cloudy day. In the distance, a lighthouse is visible at the end of a small stretch of land that extends out from the coastline.

My hostel is at the base of Edinburgh Castle. The photo below is taken from the front door.

A portion of Edinburgh Castle and the castle wall, on top of a steep grassy hill. A city street is between the author and the base of the hill. In the top left corner of the photo is half of a sign for the Castle Rock Hostel.

I visited St. Giles cathedral today. The stained glass windows are amazingly colorful. While most of the cathedral is over 900 years old, the stained glass windows were added in the 1800's.

Exterior of St. Giles Cathedral taken from across the street. The cathedral is made of dark brown stones, and is topped by a large open domed spire. A green statue of Walter Scott is on a large pedistal foundation in front of the Cathedral.

Close up of portion of a large stained glass window. The section depicts Christ on the right calming a storm on the ocean. On the left, three men are in a small boat being tossed about by the storm. The colors are bright, and vivid shades of blue, purple and green.

I also went on a ghost walk this evening. The graveyard wasn't very scary, but the underground vaults were creepy, and one of the girls in my group started freaking out because she saw something.

Also, I'm really starting to dislike cobblestone streets; my feet are killing me!

Cobblestones in the courtyard outside of St. Giles Cathedral. They are arranged in the shape of a heart, with a circle in the middle of the heart. The surrounding cobblestones are arranged in a linear brick pattern.
